Giant Diamond sells for 16 Million dollars in Geneva

An 84.37 Carat white diamond sold for just over 16 million dollars at auction here on Wednesday, making it the second most expensive such stone ever sold, auction house Sotheby's said.

The stone described by Sotheby's as the "Largest, Purest White, Flawless, Brilliant - Cut Diamond ever to appear at auction," fetched 18.2 million Swiss Francs (16.1 million dollars, 13.0 million euros) at the sale in Geneva.

The price was towards the lower end of the 15 to 20 million Swiss Franc range that the auction house had set.

No details were immediately available on the buyer.
