The word Dinosaur means
"fearfully-great lizard". Originally defined so by Richard
Owen in 1842. The Greek word "deinos", when used as a
superlative, means "fearfully-great". It became simplified
over time, to mean "terrible".
Dinosaur bone has long
been used for ornamentation. When polished it shows many colors as well
as cell structure. It is popular as a gemstone for use in jewelry.
